The best advices of a destination wedding photographer to obtain beautiful preparation pictures of your wedding ! Here are some tips to make sure your session goes smoothly.
1- Plan enough time
Ladies, plan enough time for your preparation pictures! You don’t want to be in a hurry when doing your makeup and hair, especially if you are working with one or two providers who don’t know each other, and even more so if you are surrounded by your family and bridesmaids. It is better to be ready in advance than at the last minute. This will allow the photographer to take beautiful pictures of you surrounded by your bridesmaids and above all to have 10 minutes to take your portrait!
2- Choose the right place
Choose a spacious and bright place so that the photos and videos look perfect. If the preparations are very important to you, I invite you to ask your photographer’s opinion, to ask him/her questions. Send him pictures of your interior to validate it. He will not hesitate to give you advice adapted to your space. And why not take your preparation pictures in your reception place or a nice hotel/airbnb? The advantage: you won’t have to take care of the cleaning.
3- Prepare the venue to be neat and tidy
Some of my brides and grooms have pushed and moved furniture the day before I arrive so that I can have the clearest space possible. Sometimes I waste time moving furniture to make room.
4. Prepare the accessories and the dress before the arrival of the photographer
Gather all your elements in advance : The dress, your bouquet, your wedding rings, your shoes, the accessories, the stationery, your perfume etc.
You will be stressed on the big day so gather all these elements beforehand for more serenity.
The preparations include pictures of all the details: your dress is still white, the bouquet of flowers and the boutonnieres are still splendid.
For the bride’s preparations, you need: the dress, your bouquet, your wedding rings, your shoes, the accessories, the stationery, your perfume
For the groom’s preparations, you need: the suit, the shirt, the shoes, the bow tie, the cufflinks, the belt
5. Bring a nice satin or silk bathrobe
D-Day is your day! With a beautiful bathrobe, you will feel like a princess and your hair and makeup will be preserved.
6. Put the things that are not part of the preparations in a separate room
Ask your bridesmaids to be ready or close to be ready when the time’s photographer comes.
Little Bonus : Now that everything is organized, you can be yourself and enjoy your moment! To unwind, do not hesitate to bring out a bottle of Champagne or some beers for the gentlemen!
Now, everything will be fine and you’ll have beautiful preparation pictures and you’re both ready to get married! Don’t worry, your photographer is also there to make you relax and smile.
7. Inform your providers of the presence of your photographer
Tell your hairdresser and/or make-up artist that your photographer will be there to take pictures. If they are informed, they will usually be careful with their outfit because they too can be in the pictures. Also confirm with them that they don’t mind being photographed.
8. Manage your time well so that everything is ready when the photographer arrives
Ask your bridesmaids to be ready or close to be ready when the time’s photographer comes.
